Anson Carter Rejects the Swiss

Anson Carter

Several sources report that up to three Swiss teams are interested in signing UFA Anson Carter, who has yet to find himself an NHL job this season. He was invited on a tryout basis with the Oilers during the pre-season but was not very visible on the ice before suffering a concussion. Despite this being probably the only job offer he’s received since, Carter said he will not be signing in Switzerland.

Carter is now two seasons removed from his career year in Vancouver, where he scored 33 goals playing deflection fodder for the Sedin twins. He and his agent seem to think that it was Carter that elevated the Sedin’s play and not the other way around and therefore, justified a substantial raise as some think he was demanding as much as $3m a season. We’re not sure if he’s still asking for the same amount of money this season although last season, where he was a massive bust in Carolina before being traded to Columbus, certainly does not help his value.

It is believed that Carter does not want to play anywhere but North America or Russia, since the NHL and the Russian Super League pay the most out of professional hockey organizations. However, at this point, I’m thinking beggers can’t be choosers. It’s almost safe to say no one in the NHL is interested in signing Carter for anything beyond $1m and the Russians aren’t exactly fighting for his services either.
